Marco Caria

Marco Caria was born in Oristano, Sardinia, and is considered one of the most interesting voices on the international opera scene.
He started studying guitar and singing from a very young age at the «L. Canepa» conservatory in his hometown, then specializing at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and quickly winning several international singing competitions, among which are: «Tito Gobbi», «Domenico Alaleona», «Luciano Neroni», «Iris Adami Corradetti», etc..

The «Nicolai Ghiaurov» scholarship allowed him to complete his studies at the International Opera University in Sulmona under such prestiegous names ad Gianni Raimondi, Mirella Freni, Luciana Serra and at the Cubec «Academy of Belcanto of Modena» for 5 years with Mirella Freni.
In 2002, as the best student of the International Lyric University of Sulmona, he made his debut in the role of Don Alvaro in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims at Teatro Marrucino in Chieti.
He quickly began his rise by winning second prize and the public prize at Placido Domingo's Operalia Competition in the 2007 edition in Paris and quickly made his debut in the roles of: Rodrigo in Don Carlo (Cincinnati Opera), Don Carlo in La forza del Destino (Cincinnati May Festival), Giorgio Germont in La traviata (Cincinnati, Venice), Marcello in La bohème (Cincinnati ), Silvio in Pagliacci (Venice), Cecil in Maria Stuarda (Venice).
These were followed by: Un ballo in maschera (Renato) at Teatro Comunale in Bologna; Lucia di Lammermoor (Enrico) at the Rome Opera, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, at the NCPA in Beijing, at the Liceu in Barcelona, at the Royal Opera House in Muscat, a the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam and Teatro Massimo in Palermo; Don Carlo (Rodrigo) in Lima; Maria Padilla (Don Pedro) at the Wexford Opera Festival; Maria Stuarda (Cecil) at Teatro Verdi in Trieste and at Teatro San Carlo in Naples; Simon Boccanegra (Paolo Albiani) conducted by Riccardo Muti at the Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo and at the Regio in Parma; Pagliacci (Tonio) and Il trovatore (Conte di Luna) at the Macerata Opera Festival; Rigoletto at Teatro Filarmonico Verona; Il barbiere di Siviglia (Figaro) at the Abao Olbe in Bilbao; Falstaff (Ford) in Los Angeles; La bohème (Marcello) for the reopening of Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, in Shanghai, on tour in Korea and at the Salle Pleyel in Paris.
He took also part in the «Juan Diego Florez and friends» gala concert at the Barbican Center in London alongside Joyce Di Donato.
His collaboration with the Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna has been particularly strong and saw him appearing in: La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, L'elisir d'amore, Simon Boccanegra, Pagliacci, Falstaff, Werther, Lucia di Lammermoor, Roberto Devereux and, more recently, Andrea Chénier and Il barbiere di Siviglia.
He has worked with conductors such as: Roberto Abbado, Yves Abel, Marco Armiliato, Bruno Campanella, Myung-Whun Chung, Ottavio Dantone, Valery Gergiev, Michele Mariotti, Riccardo Muti, Daniel Oren, Stefano Ranzani, Nello Santi, Pinchas Steinberg, etc... and directors such as: Damiano Michieletto, Luca Ronconi, etc...
