Bror Magnus Tødenes
Norwegian tenor Bror Magnus Tødenes is praised for his “agile tenor with an almost ideal bel canto sound” (Kulturvinden) and for performances that balance lyrical warmth, dramatic intensity, and effortless vocal technique.
In Giovanna d’Arco at Malmö Opera, critics noted his ability to “navigate long and challenging passages without a trace of fatigue, while maintaining full vocal focus - even in physically demanding staging”.
Current and upcoming engagements include a series of exciting debuts and role returns. He makes his house debut at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as Cavaradossi in Tosca, and sings Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse. He debuts at the Polish National Opera as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly and Alfredo in La traviata, and reprises Alfredo at the Prague National Opera, and sings Cassio in Otello with the Ópera de Las Palmas.
Other recent highlights include Ismaele in Nabucco at the Wiener Staatsoper, Macduff in Macbeth at the Opéra de Lyon and Toulouse, and appearances in Paris, Bergen, Copenhagen, and Prague in repertoire ranging from Rinuccio, Tamino, and Lensky to Steuermann, Camille, and The Messenger in Aida at the Salzburger Festspiele under Riccardo Muti.
He performed the title role in La clemenza di Tito under Marc Minkowski, and appeared in Die Frau ohne Schatten with the Rotterdam Philharmonic under Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Additional roles include Alfredo with the Royal Swedish Opera, and Carlo in Giovanna d’Arco at the Copenhagen Festival and the Malmö Opera. A winner of both the First Prize and Audience Prize at the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition, Tødenes is also the youngest recipient of the Erling Kroghs Grant from the Norwegian National Opera. He trained in Trondheim and at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome, and is a former member of the Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project.
